To formally wrap up the USC Water Resources Center’s 50th anniversary celebration, a Culmination Night was held on the 2nd of October 2025 at the SAFAD Building Lobby in the University of San Carlos, Talamban Campus. The occasion was venerated and blessed with a holy mass at the USC-TC Chapel, with all guests and personnel present, before proceeding to the main event. The evening kicked off with a musical performance by [names of performers], and the guests proceeded to feast on the bountiful buffet. After dinner, the program began with an invocation from Fr. John Ferdinand M. Cruz, SVD, BOT – USC WRCFI, and welcoming remarks from Engr. Maria Nenita A. Jumao-as, Executive Director of the USC WRCFI.
The winners of the on-the-Spot poster making contest were congratulated and awarded, starting with third place, Mr. Carlo G. Gonzaga, a 2nd year BS Chemical Engineering student. In second place was Mr. Jhan Aldrin M. Carilimdiliman, a 3rd-year BS Civil Engineering student. First placer Ms. Rae Monique P. Ngo, 3rd-year BS Architecture student, was acknowledged and applauded. Each winner was given a certificate of recognition.
For the Water Quiz Bowl, the top three winning departments were also called onto the stage. Third placers Kurht-Daniel Liston, Christine Joy G. Llimit, and Adrianne Francis Tarongoy from the Department of Biology were given certificates and granted the cash prize of Php 9,000. Second placers Shane Vast Andrei A. Casino, Troy Mikael N. Flores, and Joel Simon D. Malubay from the Department of Chemical Engineering were also rewarded with certificates and a cash prize of Php 12,000. First placers Steven Angelo B. Retutal, Hezekiah M. Mondoñedo, and Ia Nikka Alyana P. Paclibar from the Department of Mechanical Engineering took the honor of receiving a cash prize of Php 18,000 along with certificates of appreciation/participation.
The program proceeded with a congratulatory speech from USC WRCFI’s partners, Ard. Evelyn Nacario-Castro from the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development Region 7, Engr. Jon Paulo Siglos from the Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineers – Cebu Chapter, Ar. Richard M. Obaner of the Lamac Multi-Purpose Cooperative, and Engr. Ricardo L. Fornins of the University of San Carlos – AVPA. Long-standing employees of the USC WRCFI were commended for their dedication to their duties and honored with tokens of appreciation. In recognition of 30 years as a water supply engineer and administrative staff, respectively, at the USC WRCFI, Enr. Sherman P. Maga and Mr. Pedro P. Zamboangnon received a plaque for their diligence. To recognize 43 years of service with the organization as the executive director, Engr. Maria Nenita A. Jumao-as, MSc, was awarded a plaque and gifted a colorful bouquet in gratitude for her guidance and intelligence in the pursuit of sustainable water management.
This was followed by a message of gratitude and moving forward by Fr. Rogelio K. Bag-ao, SVD, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the USC WRCFI. Fr. Herman van Englen, PhD, the founder of the organization, also gave a personal message to the team via phone call recording. Finally, Engr. Kathrina Marie Borgonia, MSc, assistant professor from the Department of Engineering, delivered the closing remarks. All attendees then had a photo opportunity, marking the end of the 50th anniversary celebration, which came to a successful conclusion.
